Military Sealift Command (MSC)

How to Start the Process and Obtain your Basic MMC Application and Credential Instructions

With the skills you have listed, the USCG National Maritime Center will issue you basic endorsements on your MMC and that will qualify you for entry level and other non-Deck or engineer positions with MSC.  If interested I have attached the forms and listed the instructions below.

Entry level pay is from $26k to 30k.  You can view our other positions base pay on our website, but what is not there is most all double their base salary with overtime.  This is a federal job, with all federal benefits and if military you will be able to convert your years in the military to federal retirement.

If you are interested in continuing the process, I would encourage you to watch this 7 minute movie clip at this link:

Next, you will need to Create an online profile: To start the process, go to: https://apply.sealiftcommand.com/irf

This will generate an immediate email (if not, spam and junk folders) that will ask you to verify your email address and then will allow you to create an online profile. Fill in all the requested information you can at this time. When uploading documents into your profile, rather than scanning, take a normal resolution picture of them with your smart phone and upload that file and make sure they are legible.

To get started, you will need to get your 3 credentials.  A Transportation Workers ID card (TWIC) ($129.50), a USCG Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) ($140.00) and a Tourist Passport ($135.00).  See below.

Below are instructions to obtain your Basic MMC and other credentials you will need to apply for a position with MSC.

1. Get your Tourist Passport 1stif you don’t have one already, it takes a while to receive it.  You can go to the post office or do online.

2. Get your TWIC Card next $129.50‐ Google TWIC Office locations and follow instructions.

4. Get 719 K/E physical form filled out by military Doctor if military or from your civilian Dr using attached 719K/E Form.  Make sure Dr writes in the comments block you do not have any communicable diseases.

5.  Fill out attached other USCG forms.

6. Fill out 719B MMC application and check MMC then Original.  In the endorsement block put Basic MMC.

7. You can send your MMC application in electronically or mail or take it to one of the USCG Regional Exam Centers for processing. Here is a link to USCG NMC website to do that.

8. NMC will email or send you a letter stating what you will qualify to test for and what maritime

classes you will need to take to test for that endorsement.
